I was playing around with iMovie on my iPod Touch 4G and noticed that if I export a movie without adding theme music, I only get mono sound (from the left channel). However, if I add theme music, I actually get the sound from both speakers (music AND video sound is on both channels).

Is there anyway to force it to always output to both channels or is this a bug in the software? I've tried this on several videos and they all do this.

I realize this is an old thread ... but no answer was posted, so I'll offer my $.02. I had the same issue and was very surprised to see that no one else had even posted the issue, seems like a pretty big 'problem' to me.

The problem is with audio files that are 'Joint Stereo' as opposed to just 'Stereo'. (You can do your own searches to understand the difference in formats). Bottom line is that iMovie for iPhone can't seem to handle the 'Joint Stereo' files. Dunno if there is a solution, but the workaround is to convert on your desktop of choice and then sync it back to your iPhone. Grrr!

I had the same issue, and in fact never was able to fix the issue. I converted the file to wav, to just stereo, to wma, no dice.

I ended up just copying the video file itself and then adding the audio track in Adobe Premiere Elements on my desktop but it really ruined the whole "instant moviemaking" appeal of iMovie on the iPhone.

I can't believe this isn't a bigger problem, I googled around for a while looking for a solution, apparently most people don't try and use their own music for a background track.

Really hope Apple fixes this in the next release because its basically useless right now.

Microbyte, did you ever find a solution to this problem? Same thing is happening to me. I'm hoping for the iMovie App update soon :( Hopefully they'll fix it. It's terribly annoying.
