iMovie Folder location

Never used iMovie before and about to move all my video files over onto my new iMac. Before I do though I would like to know where these will be stored when I do.

In iPhoto I moved the iPhoto Library to my HD (I have the SSD+HD so would like to keep all files off the SSD if possible) - can I do this also in iMovie?

I would like to set it so that any files imported, whether now or in future, are stored on the HD and not the SSD.

Any advice much appreciated.

iMovie does not function in the same manner as iPhoto. iMovie is the application for editing/creating movies. If your movies are already edited the way you like them, you don't need to use iMovie. To view them you would simply locate the file using "Finder" and click on it, it should open up and start playing automatically. Apologies if you know this already. When I first switched to Mac i didnt understand the distinction.

Your movies will go wherever you want them to go. When you create a movie with iMovie, it will ask you where you want to save it. By default they should go to the "Movies" folder that is located under the heading of whatever you named your computer when you first set it up (most often people use their name). Likewise, when transferring your movies to your Mac with your flash drive, or external HD or whatever you have them saved on, your Mac will allow you to put them wherever you want.

Thanks texas - after watching a couple of tutorials, I had begun to assume that you saved each project as you go, which is fine. But I also thought it was a storage/organizer for your videos as well, kind of like an iPhoto for videos, but I guess from what you are saying, it isnt.

I will just organize them all myself in a new folder as I import them.
