imovie HELP PLzzz

Hi

I have a few clips of movie in wmv format.
I wanted to put them together but a movie which was 170 mb big become 3 GB while trying to put these clips together in imovie HD

Could anyone help me how to reduce such ernomous space as i dont have so much space ..

Is there any other software

imovie will convert to DV i think unless you select MP4 on new project
file , new project , Mpeg 4
