iMovie - iDVD output options

Im trying to make a DVD using both iMovie and iDVD, can anyone tell me how to get the best quality.

Using other programs before on windows ive output it to avi and then gone from there which gave the best results.

There are quite a few output options in iMovie and then again options in iDVD on the quality which is making me a little confused.

Any direction would be great.
