iMovie importing

Hi so i recently got an HD PVR and i recorded some game play from my xbox 360. The videos are in H.264 .mp4 format. When I try to import the videos to imovie it says an estimated time of 3-4 hours for a 10 minute clip. Is this normal or is there a way to speed this up?

If you leave it for a while you might see the time go down substantially. Some of the Apple estimates start out wildly high.

I have done that and it still takes pretty long
