iMovie only allows one project at a time?

First thread! So I have a slightly new MacBook Pro, 10.7.4.
I'm a Youtuber and I use iMovie to edit my videos, I am somewhat good with iMovie, but I find that iMovie only allows to do one actual thingy of project, for example, if you were doing a video of an iPhone, and you try to make a different video, only one of an iPod, you'd have to finish or delete the iPhone video to make space for the new one...
Is this intentional or just my noobiness?
I find I can only create new events which allow the bottom bit of videos to be shown, sorry about my vagueness while describing the problem...
I'm running iMovie 9.0.4...

You create a new "Project" in the "Project Library".
