I bought iMovie 2011, iPhoto 2011, Number 2009 and Pages 2009 a few years ago on CD. These versions are now outdated.

I did a fresh install of El Capitain on my 2009 Macbook. I want to install the latest versions of these apps without having to install the old versions first. How can I do that? When I go to the Apps Store it wants to charge me for the latest version because they are not currently installed on my Macbook.

Thanks.

You can't unless you buy a new Mac and then the iWork suite and other apps are a free download from Apple. Just install the old versions first and then you can update them without paying again. That's what I did and afterward remove the older versions. However.... I can tell you that Pages 2009 is a better app than the current Pages which has been dumbed down.
