iMovie question please HELP!

I've had a .mov file already made and I imported it into iMovie 08. This was an almost 3GB file and i wanted to make it smaller by using the "Share" menue and picking "youtube" or something. The entire share menu is greyed out. Why??

You can't upload a 3GB file to youtube, or anything else, i think.

Select the entire clip and drag it to the middle panel at the top.
