Greetings

I have a 2012 3.2GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon. OS El Capitan. iMovie 10.1.6.

Until a couple of days ago I was able to drag pics, video and audio into the iMovie timeline and try to create a project.
Now it won't let me. As far as I know nothing has changed on my computer.

I have searched online for an answer and one intriguing response was that it could be a system error.
If so, how do I identify it and fix it?

Also now iMovie quits a couple of times before it stays open.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Nope, didn't work. New install even opened with previous files I had loaded into the media, which I thought was odd.
I think I might need to get a non Mac video editing programme

No haven't tried reboot...
I had to Google to clarify what reboot actually was and I thought one only did it when the Mac froze.
So it's different to shut down and restart?
Sorry my computer knowledge is basically on a need to know basis lol
