ACAB!

But that's an ugly police car. Is anyone taking the police serious when they are cruising around in those brown things?

Oddly yes (I know its not exactly eye candy), they take them so seriously they made this law <sigh> see normal cop cars (one color) those are ok and technically so are 3 color ones (like mine) but yeah...

The Cyrillic text would pretty much rule out this being a German police car...
Lipping off to the Russian police would be an ... educational ... experience, I would think.

Still looking for validation that you are right and the law is an ass, huh?

OK:
1) I'm driving down the highway on a rainly night. A car passes me and signals that I should pull over. No way am I about to do that, but it's a patrol car by the looks of it, must be a ghost car or something, so I pull over. Two guys get out, I say "can I help you officer?" and they say "Yeah sucker, out of the car and give me all your money. This is a stickup."

2) Citizen is getting assaulted, she sees a 'patrol car' on the street and runs for it "Help! I'm being attacked!" "Geez, sorry lady I'm not a cop, I can't do anything for you."

The law is the law. Unless you want to challenge it in court, it's a losing game to try and argue your way out of it based on your limited understanding.

"As-is" does not trump legal requirements. You'd win the small claims court action agaist the dealer.

You say don't want problems ... then make sure you paint it before selling it in state. I'd take the nerf bars off it too. That screams "police vehicle".

Yes, AS-IS doesn't take over for laws, but I can't afford to do anything to make him pay for the paint. Now I understand that type of situation, as rare as it maybe, just seems odd then that a car that looks more like a cop car and has lights is 100% fine and dandy, my paint isn't. It odd thats all I can say. The thing you called nerf bars can't be removed its welded to the car. See I have a boat load of problems with the car <sigh> but it happens hopefully I will find an out-of state buyer for the car.

Well hell I should have bought me one of them cars instead!! Think I could pick a used one up for $1500   Heck a part for the car prolly costs that much.

Ohh, btw I known t was a Russian can, I know a bit of German so I'm not that ignorant :p

well I'm not sure about the legal position your in, but if your looking for a cheap paint job try calling a local community college or vocational school. Just tell them the position your in and see if a student in auto body class is whiling to paint it for a few hundred $$$

Be careful letting students paint cars

I just find this whole thing completely rediculous, the dictionary definition of police:

'noun [treated as pl. ] (usu. the police) the civil force of a national or local government, responsible for the prevention and detection of crime and the maintenance of public order.'

It seems police nowadays, spend more time harrasing locals to make them feel the power that badge gives them, than going out and putting real criminals behind bars or 6 feet under.

Why don't you write a letter to the state DMV, include photographs and ask for an official written response on the situation? Then, if you're legal, you could carry that letter around. If not, you could take the letter to the seller and force him to repaint the car or give you your money back.

3) Imagine the sheer fun of driving along the road and someone zooms by you and you just peel out after them and watch them jump on the brake, that alone would be worth $1500 to me.

I think its funny that in Illinois I see cars with the little spotlight on them still ... that as good as the bars on the front and easier to scare people with at night.

LOL, sorry but welcome..

Welcome to the world of owning a P71, especially in a small town..

I have a '99 P71 Myself w/ 113k miles and its bright fire engine red, the guy that had it before me painted it because of the exact same problem you're having. Even being a perfectly legal color, I catch alot of attention, I have moved around for the past few years, between here in IN, TX, LA, and AL. Any old cruiser seems to be a magnet for harassment, I can't begin to count the amount of times I've been pulled over for absolutely nothing. I live in a small rural town in southeastern IN (also where I purchased the car) and since I bought it I've been awaiting the chance to get rid of it and get something else. If I were you, I'd just buy a lot of homemade paint supplies and rattle can it flat black. The cars lose resale value almost as soon as you buy them, that should be the last concern of yours.. here's a pic of mine

Notice the black bumper, that happened after I was driving on the freeway in Houston, TX and there was a bedliner in the middle of the freeway and i was surrounded by big rigs, so I just had to hit it.. Don't have the money to paint it now, theres also a big dent in the driver's side fender where i got hit in a parking lot somewhere in rural east TX, and the guy ran off. I went into the convenience store I was at and they called the police for me to have a report made up.. A Texas Highway Patrol Officer showed up and I caught all sorts of lip for wearing my ray-ban aviators and driving the car, like I was trying to impersonate an officer. I hope you get something figured out, these cars are an experience.

Dude, write a ******* letter to the dealer and simply say you expect them to repaint it; point out they may have violated law, or, even better, simply enclose a copy of the statute printed out with the relevant section highlighted.

Failing that, paint the ******* thing.

PS--It has no resale value to speak of anyway.

Yeah, too bad this thread is a year old. What's up with people dredging up all these old threads lately?
