I seem to think this will just be fun, not very productive like my macbook. That said, I like to watch bit torrent movies on my macbook. And I read that avi files won't play on ipad, for now at least. I'm wondering if I could still download movies and import them to my video section in itunes. Just play them that way, m4v file. Messy but at least I can watch artsy movies that itunes doesn't sell yet.

Also you can use Handbrake and set with some of the apple's profiles that has the application, and you can get mp4 or m4v.

    Good luck!

If you want to play all your avi files on your iPad, just download AirVideo (free) and stream the videos wirelessly. Works great for me on my iPhone.
