I ordered a new ibook from the Apple Canada store. I figure, since it was from apple.ca, I won't have to pay duty when Mr. FedEx guy comes to my door. Am I right or am I going to get hammered with fees?

No you shouldn't have to. I imagine it's shipped from some apple warehouse in canada to you. If you were to walk into a computer store and buy an apple product you don't get dinged(atleast not direclty) with the duties, so I can't see why this would be any different.
