I have just bought an iMac and pulled over all my songs into itunes (4,000+). When I go into my music library via finder I see that every song has a double which goes along the lines of this
all my life 1.m4a
all my life.m4a

iTunes seems to be using the 1.m4a file - so is there any quick way of deleting all these original files. I see someone mentioning dougs scripts - but i can not see anything here that will delete a mass of duplicate files in the iTunes library. Thanks.

If you have the space, reselect a new location for your library in the Advanced pane of iTunes' Preferences, let iTunes copy everything across by pressing Consolidate Library from the Advanced menu, then delete the original iTunes Music Folder. This should work. :)
