Resolved Importing HEIC to Windows 10 HELP

I have always taken pics in HEIC format since I owned this iPhone SE2022 model. I always used Windows PHOTO VIEWER to import photos, and it would always automatically convert them to JPG files.

All of a sudden after updating to iOS17 this no longer happens. I don't get it? Why the change?
What am I doing differently? Nothing!

Can someone help?

On your phone: Settings > Photos. Check that ‘Transfer to Mac or PC’ is set to ‘Automatic’

(When this is selected, photos and videos will be automatically transferred in a compatible format)

just for the protocol: you can install Microsoft‘s free HEIF extension for Windows 10 or up, which will simply bring system wide read/write support for HEIC on Windows.
For video there are two download options of Microsoft‘s HEVC extension on the MS Store - Microsoft promotes the one for which you pay them 1$, personally I usually use the link to the free version - just copy/paste the following link into your internet browser on Windows: ms-windows-store://pdp/?ProductId=9n4wgh0z6vhq.
