Guys,

I've just got a mac and like iphoto. Unfortunately i have over 100GB of photo's on my nas and would like to have them indexed in iPhoto.

What i would like to do is add the photos but not copy them across to the drive, just index them. Would this work?

I also take my mac on the road so am sometimes away from my nas, what will happen if i open iphoto while on the road and it cant find the photo's on the nas?

Thanks in advance

You could do it with a referenced library but there are downsides. iPhoto maintains a thumbnail of the image locally and will use that when the external disk isn't available.

If you have that many images, you might consider an upgrade to Aperture. it provides more features for library management.
