I am hoping there is someway to import a text edit file into the notes section of my touch, but so far can't figure it. Has anyone ever done this? I've compiled a reference list of the movies on DVDs I own and it would be great to have that as a reference file on my iPod when out and about.

I don't know how to do it with the built in notes app, but you can use an app like Notebook from http://appigo.com/notebook to do what you want.
This app can synchronize with Toodledo notes on the web.
You can copy your text to the notes in Toodledo and it will be automatically synced to your Ipod Touch Notebook.

airsharing app

Air sharing will display a wide variety of documents. It won't import to notes, but you'll be able to view .txt, .doc as well as other types of files so you can view them "out and about."
