Hello everyone, guys. Installed usb Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 Macbook Air 1.1 Early 2008, but the app store (cannot connect ), itunes (error code -9836). Is that all, support has been discontinued?

Even if it has you can confine yourself to the bliss of ignorance about the storm raging around. Go to https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/fixing-https-issues-on-old-versions-of-os-x.2281326/ and download the proxy (instructions supplemented) that translates all web requests so that old macOS re-gain the capability to talk to the modern Internet using the most up-to-date version of the TLS protocol.

Yes, Apple isn't interested in helping us out with old system installers anymore. I think they prefer seeing us buy new iMacs. But is rather easy to download the pkg version of the installers. If you open such a file and follow the instructions, you get the installation app. From there you can either install it or build a bootable installer on a separate disk. (If your machine supports the version, of course.)

I just rebooted into my Lion partition. It seems that day has come. Neither App Store nor Genius is able to connect anymore.

I doubt Lion or Mountain Lion will allow you into the store. Something to do with I think, iTunes versions. I used legacy version of Chrome and downloaded another legacy browser - they worked, but did not allow access to the Apple store.

I had a video uploading project from an Firewire video tape camcorder, I used Diskmaker's terrific software to creat bootable drives (in my case I used USB drives). My 2011 Macboook's SSD (128 Gb) could not be recovered, and I replaced it with a 1 TB drive, which I partitioned for Mountain Lion and then High Sierra. Diskmaker I've used before, its very easy to use, it handles it all, I even paid a donation (which is voluntary). But a working USB and working drive are necessary!

the best answer I found (as of today's date) was THIS VIDEO.

Because i'm presently on a Silicon-based Mac, and needed to create a bootable USB for an older 2008 MBP, there were some specific issues related to non-intel vs Silicon-based...problems. This video was simple and worked quickly. check it out if you have a similar situation.

I was able to install Snow Leopard from an install CD on my old 2008 White MacBook, and then once that was done I simply downloaded the Lion installer from Apples website and then clicked on the Lion installer and installed Lion. I did this 3 days ago, without any issues whatsoever so it's definitely not "impossible" to download the old installer.

Is this not working for people?

:)

@douglass - I think the issue is related to what device you're presently sitting on.
If you're on an '08 MB, then you'll be able to do so. If you're on an M1+ MB or other device that does not support Lion, it's not allowed.

I DID, however, find a neat tool in GitHub called Mist that allows me to download and create any instance of just about ANY version of OSX. It'll even automatically create an installer too:

It's even better than the walk-through process I linked to above.

That’s strange, as far as I know the download isn’t “blocked” if you’re on a different computer, it’s simply a downloaded file. Are people having issues downloading this installer here….

Naturally your computer won’t install it if it isn’t compatible, but you’re saying the actual download is blocked? How is that possible?
