The battery on the pro 9.7 is so-so. Read Engadget's review.

It's why I use their test as a benchmark.

Then read their Air2 review. Battery life dropped from air2 to pro 9.7

Each user's individual results will vary depending on brightness settings, what background tasks you have enabled, wifi on/off, and so on.

If yours is over 11 hrs, probably due to low brightness, etc.

Hopefully, the battery on future releases will be better, but I doubt it given Apple's desire to keep the weight at a premium.

I have been using my iPad Pro 9.7 as a replacement for my Mac mini and, so far, it has met every challenge. This week I kept an eye on battery usage and am impressed. Apple states 10 hours of web surfing but I'm consistently getting more than that.

Since the last full battery charge:
Usage: 11 hr, 32 min
Standby: 58 hr, 19 min

I'm very happy with this device.

Brightness is set at about 50% with auto-brightness enabled.

I keep background app refresh off for all apps, but toggled on for the system. I see background app refresh as a waste of system resources, I can easily refresh an app when I launch it.

I don't allow games on any of my devices, and videos are only allowed as part of a class or lecture.

I use LTE most of the time, wifi is used only for iCloud backups

Location services is set to "While Using" for most apps, I never allow the "Always" setting.

If auto-brightness is enabled, it sorta negates setting it to 50%.

What about BT?

I just noticed that the sizes are identical for the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Pro 9.7 (both models Wi-Fi + Cellular). I wonder what changed to cause the battery life to drop.

You make a good point. And, I don't have anything that uses Bluetooth, so it's not use.

I ask about BT because I'm not sure how much battery drain that uses.

I use the iPad speaker when playing background music or movies. It's sufficiently loud for casual use.

On my Tab Pro 8.4, I will use a BT speaker .

I just tried increasing the brightness to 100% and felt as if I was staring at a lighthouse. Wowsers! Even in my kitchen, where the lights are bright, my iPad Pro doesn't go above about 60% as far as brightness. But, to each their own. Oh, and I turned that True Tone stuff off too, it just doesn't look right to me.

Yeah, I don't know much about Bluetooth. Also, I'm hearing impaired, so my devices are all set to mute.

I'm guessing that my habits/methods don't take full advantage of what iOS devices offer and that can serve to increase battery life.

I would turn off truetone as well.

If TT comes to the pro 12.9", it means little to me.

Ah, the inevitable.. a person who comes along trying to poke holes in my battery life claiming that I did this, or didn't do that, when he has no clue as to what I really do with my time.

I mean your screenshot shows what apps used battery...

I believe that games and videos waste resources and keep us from learning/doing something useful...I can't help but wonder if your battery life would improve if you spent your time learning more about iOS instead of playing games or watching videos (see the above paragraph).

I love the sanctimony and condescension of this - it's beautiful. Are you a member of Mensa? Sounds like you'd fit in great.

Games and videos waste resources? Depends who's hands it is in. Games can teach patience, tactics, challenges keeps your mind strong. Videos you can learn from as I've watched many of them from repair jobs to stripping appliances down, to learning a drawing or other technique or seeing how someone else would approach it.

No, I'm not a member, I have no need for such an organization.

Excuses are often fabricated to justify our habits. I feel this behavior is not beneficial.

That's stereotyping. I have several friends who are Mensa members. The lot of them are into sci-fi, fantasy, comics, anime and gaming. There are a couple of doctors and several who are programmers and developers. All are in STEM fields.
