Totally agreed.

In science, it is frowned upon to be unnecessarily verbose.

And, while I salute science and what it can teach us, and what we can learn from it and apply it to, my background is the humanities, and I love language.

And why not celebrate the glory of the English language, with its exquisitely rich vocabulary?

It's just my preference but I think your superior vocabulary can convey precision in fewer words.

I used that lingo back when there were character limits to texts and it costed a lot of money to go over that limit. To read text slang now, from an adult, is like seeing an adult dressed in a teenager's attire - they look a right tit.

Use a wide vocabulary if you must, but don't send me to sleep by taking too long to get to the point, which was what the purple text poster's point was.

I have a friend in a group text I'm in that would make you kill yourself. Government agencies would have to work around the clock to decipher what he's saying.

He may act like an idiot and text like and idiot but don't let him fool you, he IS an idiot.

It drives me crazy as well! What really gets me is when someone does it from a smartphone. You have an entire QWERTY keyboard. You don't have to push the number 2 three times for the letter C. C'mon, that's just lazy.

There is a difference between a text and a term paper. Unless english teachers are going to start grading texts I don't have a problem with it.

Perhaps, but if its difficult to discern the message being conveyed, I'd have an issue with it. As I mentioned though, the circle I run in, texts in full english.

People are still texting? I just call and for official occasions write an email.
I havent writen a text message in years back when cell calls were expensive.

I havent writen a text message in years back when cell calls were expensive.

I have received three calls so far in March, and made just one.

In my circles concise texts are more common, such as:

"Front Bar?"

"Yup about 7.00"

Uncouth, eh?

Yes, electronic communications are just that, and best used to set up a meeting. Face to face is more civil, no matter how coarse or refined the surroundings and language used.

Texts allow people to respond when convenient. Someone calling me for something non-urgent when they could've texted me is irritating and needy because I have to talk to them there and then, otherwise can I ignore it and I end up texting them 'what's up?' in hope they will text me instead of ringing again. Need to remember folk don't just sit around awaiting your phone call, we're usually doing stuff, and while we're not so occupied we can't answer, a text is less intrusive.

I prefer to think of text messages as a fast, casual way to communicate. Therefore I don't take offense at others style.

Personally I use SWYPE which is very fast and easy. Since I compose and respond to lots of emails and texts during any given day, I choose to use complete words and sentences. It's the fastest and best way for me.

I concur.
