This prediction is not possible. The MBP is Apple's best-selling line of Macs period. There's no reason for them to drop it entirely.

The 13" Macbook White used to be Apple's best selling laptop, and Apple had no problem discontinuing it altogether, so why couldn't they do it again?

I personally would not have any problem at all if Apple merged MBA and MBP into one single product line: a hybrid slightly-thinner-than-MBP-but-beefier-than-MBA laptop would get my thumbs up. Anyway, the MBP 13" and the MBA 13" are not that far from each other in terms of performance and market target, so why should that be different for a hypothetical MBA 15" and MBA 17"?

How would you feel if Apple did the following:

1. Introduces a 15-inch notebook with no DVD drive, a quad-core Ivy Bridge processor, proprietary SSD, and no discrete graphics. Looks just like a larger MacBook Air.
2. Declares that MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs will be merged into one product category, the iBook. All current MacBook Pro models up until that point will be dropped.

How would you guys feel? I have a strong feeling that something like this might just occur later this year...

I would literally buy a PC instead of a new 17" MBP like I was planning to. That would be horrible, but it would be necessary for my computing needs.

Where are you getting your information? At the time it was discontinued, both the MBA and MBP lines were selling better than the polycarbonate MacBook. It's sales were steadily declining while the sales of the other two were increasing. The MBP line had been outselling the MacBook line long before that.

The only time that I can think of where Apple replaced a well-selling item was when they replaced the iPod Mini with the Nano. However, that situation is quite a bit different than this one.

Simply put, Apple has forgetting its roots and is turning into Big Brother

To which I most certainly agree, they've already become Big Brother, much to the delight of millions who just don't get it.

One day they may wake up & feel as though they've been hit by a bus.

Locked into the Garden of Apple with razor wire atop the fences.

They already had an iBook and it is not like them to resurrect old product lines or names. Also, iBook is a new product now and they cannot have two things sharing the same name.

bad decision to phase out the Mac name imo, Macintosh is where it all started for Apple. Next thing you know they will be removing the start up sound

Yea not a fan of this. A name is exactly that, just a name but this seems to suggest a shift in the direction they will be taking their PCs and I kinda like things the way they are.
