Hello,

I was wondering if it's allowed to use in app purchases as a way to let users to donate money to support the app?

Thank you.

I'm not sure of you can have a purchase where they don't get anything in return. But you could, for example, sell badges (basically just an image) which shows the users support...

maybe send an email to them with the badge after they made the purchase?

I'm not convinced that would be good enough: I think you'd need some way to display the purchased badges within the app. If I were you I'd look at other ways of getting cash though: I suspect no-one will voluntarily pay. Either charge for the app or use in-app adverts.

With iPhone 0S 4.0, there is a way to show ads from Apple for 60% of the ad revenue. iPhone OS 4.0 is available in beta now and is scheduled to be released Summer 2010.
And then, of course, there's all the existing ad servers that you can use now...
