You could also point out. That if the synthetic material was made from crude oil. It ultimately is made from a dead animal.;)

The Chinese are very very good these days with the synthetic material which one could call imitation leather or Vegan :p. They really have come a long ways with it. In fact the good high quality stuff is even better than leather.

Go to a shoe shop here in America and find a leather shoe regardless of whether it is cheap or $500 for a pair of shoes then take your finger nail and go across it. Watch how quickly it scratches and how hard it is to remove that scratch. A few weeks later that new show looks old and all scratched up. The Good Vegan shoes out of China :p don’t scratch and will look like new for a good 12 months. The same goes for bags and other accessories. I worked with bags and shoes for many years as well. Visited many manufacturers in China for stuff like this.

The funny part was that the knock off stuff could often be better made when compared to the original ones.

I thought this stuff was widely known as pleather.

There is a chain of cheap shoe shops in the UK called Bacons. It sells mostly pleather shoes and has been struggling a bit. It clearly needs to get a new name, like Tofus and rebrand itself as Organic Vegan Footwear.

I’ll stick with genuine leather where practical.

Agree completely.

Genuine, good quality leather is wonderful to wear and use, and sit on, and it ages beautifully.

I like bacon. Just for the record.

Quite a few of my friends are - or have been - vegetarian (not vegan) at one time or another. I accept that I can see some of the ethical, or moral arguments for vegetarianism, but I do not subscribe to them.

Above all, the main reason I would never choose to be a vegetarian is Parma Ham - prosciutto - and its splendid Spanish kin, Iberico ham (and not bacon, although bacon comes close).

Not that I eat it all that often, it is more in the nature of a treat once or twice a month, but, rather than choose vegetarianism, I preferred not to forego the idea of consuming Parma ham for the remainder of my life.

As for going vegan: No, never. You can prise my organic eggs and cheeses from my cold, dead hands.

I agree, and yes, prosciutto di Parma is delicious!
To be honest I don't mind that some people decide, for whatever reason, to go vegan. However, I don't like their push to proselytize and certainly their virtue signaling. I even know two pushy vegans that … eat seafood (salmon, etc.). I remarked that they just eat those animals that can't scream, just to be yelled at as if I were some sort of torturer. As someone pointed out in this thread, it's mostly a possibly interesting, and serious idea seized by pure marketing.

However, I am amazed at how words and definition quickly become mainstream, such as vegan leather.

I find those who change their pet's diets to fit their ideas even worse, I mean dogs and especially cats (the latter being obligate carnivores) I "defriended" someone who posted an article pushing this idea (I mean they changed their name to xxx "Anti-Speciest"). Get a rabbit if buying other dead animals to feed your non-human companion bothers you that much!

Agreed, it's total madness.

As an "Obligate Omnivore" I also agree. I believe God (however you may conceive Him) gave me Canine teeth for a reason... I have also found that I am healthier and find it easier to maintain my weight when I include meat in my diet. I have also found that for me "chicken" (warm-blooded, feathered dinosaur) is NOT so good for me...

P.S. Hitler was a vegetarian and an animal protection advocate...just saying...making national preserves was one of the few good things he did - but what were his motives???

Here’s notice a difference on how you get leather compared to oil?

Not all leather is produced this way, and it is irresponsible to characterize leather production as though it is.
