The part about TV power consumption was very informative.
I know that the most common way LCD/LED TVs fail their power supply dies. Typically, one of the many various capacitors goes. I imagine that having a TV power supply running at full throttle all the time would accelerate this.
I had been so so on buying an OLED TV before, but with the quantity of HDR content only set to increase, I think it makes sense to revisit it. For obvious reasons, I like to buy nice things but not buy them often. In terms of getting use out of a TV for 5+ years, it seems OLED is the best bet today.
