Why did we need this thread? There was already a thread for the Fitbit compared to the AW. You tried the 1st Gen, so why bother again.

Would be great if the number of steps was a choice for a watch face complication (or could be made to be one of the Activity rings). That would make me stop thinking about replacing my FB one.

Don't know why you keep buying AWs when you keep putting them in the drawer.

Why do you wonder? Does it bother you?

Your mistake was the assumption that Apple actually moved the needle from being a worst-in-class activity tracker. There is still no meaningful data sharing. Social linkages are rudimentary at best. The mobile app is basic. Simple point-features (like sleep tracking, resting HR, HR analysis, calorie intake, net calorie analysis) each require 3rd party apps instead of a single, integrated, holistic view. Battery life is still too short for 24/7 wearability. It still totally lacks a web interface for any activity data. Your data are trapped solely on your phone-- you cannot pickup your iPad to see how yesterday's activity was. Etc. It is still a worst-in-class activity tracker. It only has the feature set that basic devices had almost 10 years ago. For people coming from nothing, the activity tracking functions may look pretty cool. But, for people coming from Fitbit, Garmin, Jawbone, Misfit, Polar Microsoft, etc., the activity tracking functions are comically disjoint or simply absent.

The AW is a fantastic, extensible, smartwatch that integrates with the Apple ecosystem.

I wear both an AWS0 and a Fitbit Charge 2 now. The AW is my fun toy with the notifications, complications, alerts, Apple Pay, etc. The Fitbit handles 24/7 activity tracking, fun stuff like social connections, floors climbed, RHR, and sleep tracking. Then, I wear a Garmin for workouts. The Garmin feeds into both FB and Health, but the holistic view of my activities is superior in FB than it is in AW/iPhone Activity.

You pretty well hit the nail on the head. Maybe in 5 years Apple will mature the software but at the same time Garmin and Fitbit will be doing the same.

That's interesting to say considering Fitbit has been found to be really inaccurate for step counting in many comparison tests.

I have found my last three Fitbit devices to be quite accurate. My AW1 and AW2 STILL can not track my HR and while running I find it searching and then displaying half or double my true HR. The Fitbit tracks my HR even when worn loose.

This is definitely still very much an infancy product when it comes to fitness. But it looks like they finally realized, that fitness is one of the biggest selling points for a smartwatch - looking at the last keynote.
Hopefully they will up their game now.

I had a fitbit one a while ago, and to be honest, their fitness tracking before the AW is still better than the AW. AW tracks data fine, but it is terrible at actually giving you any motivation (in comparison to FB.) WatchOS 3 is better, now that you can share data with friends, but it is still far behind FB. The FB app allows integration with a ton of other stuff...activity on AW is a completely closed app - data only comes from the watch.

The AW is a better overall device which is why I still wear it, but as a fitness tracking service apple is still far behind.

My series 0 AW was terrible for HR accuracy but this has greatly improved with the series 2. The AW may not be perfect but I am not going to wear two devices and of the two devices, the Series 2 does a better job of what I want done than a Fitbit so AW it is. Enjoy!

Was hoping the AW#2 had improved the HR feature for me but it was just as bod.

I wear a Watch AND a fitness band and I have to say... i feel stupid. I'd love to just use one product but unfortunately the fitness band doesn't do enough and the Watch tries too hard to do everything.

I really wish Apple created a separate fitness product. Something more lightweight but less capable because if users aren't using 90% of the features then the product is bloated and needs to be streamlined for what fitness users actually want. Fitness, Notifications, Clock.

I think I'm the same as the OP. I had a few original Series 0 watches and never really got fully into it yet I'm waiting on my SS black series 2 that I probably won't like either haha. I'm just tech junky. I do need something with GPS for biking but I'm not sure the AW is my best bet. I have no idea what to get for GPS and biking though, if not apple watch.

True for the AW too. No one has this perfected. I can be buttering toast and get a 75 step credit on my AW2.

I got over 4000 extra steps by taking a 2 hour boat ride. It was not even a rough day on the water. These devices are not intended to be perfect, they can't be as they do not know what is a step or a sneeze. Best to just use for comparison.

Did that happen with the Apple Watch or Fitbit?

But I agree about these devices not being perfect. A few weeks after getting my Apple Watch, I discovered I could get stand credit by clapping enthusiastically during a show while being parked in my seat. :p

Fitbit but the Apple watch would not be far off. The AW2 gave me 1800 steps while mowing on the riding mower. Neither of the devices know what the heck you are doing. I could shake my arm for a minute while laying in the lazyboy to get my hour's worth of movement.

We tend to give our devices more "smarts" than they deserve. It is just hardware with Apple and Fitbit trying to make them seem as smart as possible. The software does no more than take data from the hardware and interpret the best it can.

If I can get to 10,000 steps, I must have been active doing something, so it's all good. I take it as more of an indicator of how active my day was overall.

Me too. The number of steps is what I just use for comparison. I care more about my resting HR and my HR during and after I run or walk. It is all good if we all just get out and enjoy.

This is all just temporary you know.

Make the best of it.:)

Miss my Fitbit and the Fitbit app.
Thanks for this thread! I have been having AW2 envy and came in here to see what folks thought.

I have used the Fitbit One, Charge and now have the Blaze. It does everything I need and I have a few low cost bands for it. I just got the recent update that reminds you to move every hour, which is pretty cool. Love my Blaze even more now. BTW.. a few minor things keep me from the AW2. 1 battery life. Charging every day seems like a drag. 2. built in Sleep tracking 3. Flights of stairs (almost as important to me as steps). 4. The tracker app - really love the what fitbit has done.

Wish Apple would step up their game. Everything else in my world is Apple. :(

You can download the app Sync Solver. It syncs Apple Health to fitbit, and vice versa. This lets you use the fitbit apps. The only thing you can't do is take part in challenges, as fitbit won't let you do that without their own hardware.

actually, you can use an Iphone equipped with a motion coprocessor and join in the challenges.....FYI

I loved my Fitbit One. So simple, and the FB app is great. But, since you don't wear the One on your wrist, easy to lose. And that's what I did on a business trip. :( Probably in the rental car. The AW is more of my personal assistant. Would be great if the number of steps was a choice for a watch face complication (or could be made to be one of the Activity rings). Oh yeah, people can write apps for these things...........
