Hello,

As one who is a PowerPC loyalist, I use PowerPC machines a lot. Now, I am in need of a new battery for my 1139 G4 dual-layer - I looked at the 1189 for 2006 17 INCH MacBook Pro 1,1 and wanted to know if this battery is backward compatible as they seem to be the right shape ?

Yeah, I kinda figured that. I have 2 batteries one stating 210 cycles and the other is 110. What is also strange is my PB G4 is currently charging, right ? But, the light is green and not amber. Yet, everything is normal and using a 65 watt charger, however I do remember my original logic board went up and had to replace it - could that be it ?

none of my g4s properly change the charger led color when charging. they work just fine.

Take the battery out and charger , press power button three times, plug it back, see if it charges

Color me...shocked!! o_O Never heard of this trick before, or if I had, I'd forgotten about it. But darned if it doesn't work!

I just gave it a shot on a TiBook, with this battery, which as you can see is 18 years old (!!!) - and it's now charging.

Yeah, my 17 DLSD OEM battery (literally the only battery I think it’s ever had) did not do this, which leads me to wonder if this is a firmware/battery firmware thing for older-era Macs, as I recall a technique similar to this did have some limited efficacy with my clamshell iBook and an old, OEM battery I still had lying about.

Beats me, but I'd long since given up this old TiBook battery for dead. Only reason I kept it around was because I intended to re-cell it someday. FWIW, basking in my success I also tried this with a dead 12" PBG4 aftermarket battery - didn't work with that one.

I can't explain it. Nor can I explain the 23-year-old PB1400 OEM battery I have that refuses to die, still runs for a couple of hours. Batteries are a mystery to me, for some reason some just seem to be better than others.

Yeah, I still have 8 brand new LG cells intended for a disused iBook clamshell battery compartment, but it’s a tight space to work with, and the solder demands are above my experience level, so for now the project sits in pieces.

So I checked the DC in connector and board - everything checks out, still can’t figure it out - it’s charging fine, but under a green light and no amber light - the charger is the same I have had since 2006, 65 watt.

I'm a little confused, other than having a different colored light, what's actually wrong with the one you have now?
