Hi - I have a 10.5" that's got a battery doing some things I consider wonky - not fully charging sometimes - and it's down to low 90's on capacity.

I'd like to give it to a family member so just want to "get a new battery" no matter what the in-store genius and his tests tell us.

Will they do that?

Also, do you know if they replace the unit with a refurb or actually open it up and put a new battery in?

(mine is mint condition - no damage - don't care either way - refurb would be great/fine actually)

Most likely you won’t be eligible for the battery replacement since your health has to be 80% or worse. Then they usually just give you a new/refurb one instead of actually replacing the battery according to people who have done it with their iPads.

Just back from the store with a "new" refurb unit.

They were more than happy to replace it for the $99+tax fee.

There were no hassles, no haggling, really nothing..
It was a really great experience, so thank you to Apple for that.

I have a 9.7” iPad Pro. I’m having the battery replaced. The Apple employee in the chat told me that it would not be a refurb replacement — we’ll see.

This is very rare I think. Apple never does that if your iPad is >= 80% health.

I was told the same thing by chat.
I expect you’ll get one if you’re polite but insistent that you'd like a new battery.
