I have a friend that lives in Albuquerue, New Mexico (sorry if I misspelled it) and he said he went to the Apple store near him and they had a fully functional usable demo. He said he didn't have a chance to mess with it himself because it was surrounded by other people the whole time he was there. Has anyone else seen a demo at their Apple store?

If you want to make some world-wide news..... call up the store and ask. This would be the first public iPad sighting outside of media event.

I just called my Apple Store, she said that they have been told that Demo Units won't be in until Saturday morning (April 3rd). that's the end of that excitement.

Something tells me they HAVE to have an iPad in each apple store before then. Maybe not a public demo unit, but they have to train the staff, no? How will staff be trained on these things?

Maybe the store the original poster was talking about accidentally let the public see the iPad?

I believe the staff have already had training on the iPad - those who signed a pretty long NDA were allowed to play with one a week back.

I'm fairly sure all employees get to either sit down and watch a keynote/powerpoint presentation or be giving a FAQ print out.

Can use imagine how long it would take to train in all employees on one iPad, could you imagine how many would be out in the wild?

An article referring to what you just posted. Apple employees have had access to iPad-- at least some have. So maybe not so farfetched that New Mexico Apple store had an iPad out today?
In case anyone wants to call- they are open for 9 more minutes!

Might just be pulling your strings, but interesting if it's true.

Sorry to create unnecessary hype, I got another message from him, I missunderstood him, he said it wasn't functional, I guess he meant it was behind a display case. I'm waiting for a response from him with more details. I haven't been to my Apple store in awhile. Can anyone confirm if they have like a display iPad behind a case or anything like that?

Nah, this kind of story is always someone's friend and not the actual poster. Pics or it didn't happen.

I could have driven the 10 minutes to the ABQ Apple Store to disprove, but what's the point?

I just sent a text to my friend who is one of the Genius Bar employees at the ABQ Apple Store and he said, "That's news to me." So I find it highly dubious.

Did everyone miss my other post? I said I missread his message. I could have sworn it said that it was usable but he sent me another message saying that it wasn't. I'm awaiting another message to find out more in detail what he is talking about.

It's not just the usability factor, it also seems (from everything I've read) highly unlikely they even have a display model.

Maybe a mockup/poster that people were crowded around? Maybe a computer running the ad or keynote?

Gives you an idea of what the Apple hype machine has done to us.
Minutes after someone posts a rumor of an iPad sighting, posts start flying from around the world.... texts get sent to Apple employees.... and we find out the whole thing was a false alarm.

    I have a headache.

I'm surprised I didn't get my door kicked in by Steve Jobs himself demanding where I heard this information by the way everyone is acting, lol

Sorry, don't mean to pile on, after a while of reading the various reports about how Apple is handling the launch, you start to get a feel for what seems greatly out of character for them.

FWIW, like w/ iPhone launches, Apple Store employees won't see the product until the morning of the launch.

They'll learn the specs and capabilities from the info that Apple's already release (apple.com/ipad), and they'll get some hands-on on launch day.
