Does Apple stores have a different inventory from in store pick up online? Mines showing “Currently Unavailable” but thinking of going to my nearest Apple store to check it out.

I did not preorder, and logged into the store app on Sunday morning and they had in store pickup available at a nearby store, so I did that and walked out with one this past Sunday! The employee running the in store pickup line told us whatever they believe they will have available that day can be ordered at 6AM online for pickup. I'd give that a shot.
Depends on the store, but you can always check it out and see if they have one. It's also possible that by the time you get there they may have received shipment. Just apple.com shows "Currently unavailable" doesn't necessarily mean they are out of stock. They certainly can have some available for walk ins. They did this for Airpods as well. apple.com showed it was out of stock, but when I went to the store, they actually had about a few dozen of them on the shelf.
