I've never done an in store pickup on an iPhone launch. What's it like? In store pickup for iPhone 8 on 9/22 is still available for my local store whereas shipping it to me is 2 weeks out.

Loooong lineups. If you've already been billed for your iPhone make sure you mention this to the person you check in with, last year I spent a good 30 mins waiting in line until they realized mine was paid for, after that it was a quick in and out. They lumped everyone into the same line at my store.

You walk into the store, get checked in and wait around until an Apple employee escorts you to a table where you will wait more. Also sitting at the table are a bunch of old lady’s that are having Apple employees walk them through setting up thier phones and using basic features. At that point you’ll realize why you’ve been waiting so long. Eventually an Apple employee will bring you your phone, try to upsell you on AppleCare and accessories. Then you leave.

They didn't do that at the store I went to but I don't mind the extra time in there

Crowded, long lines, patience tester. I remember the first time I did it I thought the appointment time actually mattered, lol. Not something I want to do again.

Depends on the store really. I did it last year, had a 2pm appointment, waited maybe 15 minutes in line and had about 4 people in line ahead of me. I used my lunch break and was back within about 45 minutes to work. It was easy. But I have heard horror stories also. I think the bigger stores tend to be more of a problem just because the lines get out of hand.

If you purchased a new phone/watch and selected a pickup window then its the usual fast, nice experience you always have at an Apple store. It is also fast and nice if you are then for any reason other than a phone/watch.

If you want to purchase a new phone/watch but haven't already then enjoy the line. It will be long.

At what point do you select the time? I guess when Apple emails you to say the phone is ready for pickup?

I preordered using the app. Inside the app it made me select a pickup time. This may be because my local Apple store is quite busy all the time.

Go to the store and pick it up, its a great experience and they celebrate you getting a new phone! Its better than plain old shipping.

When I got my 6. Lot of people. Got there at opening and massive winding line of people who were camping since the day before or whatever.
I got in line 3rd in the reservation line, and was back to work by lunch. In and out fast and pleasant.

Crowded! Unless you are one of those who think no one bought a 8 or 8+, it will be busy. The Apple store is the last place I would like to be at on introduction day but you had little choice.

Hope you enjoy!

But if you make a reservation it’s actuslky really easy. In and out in 20 mins..

The experience is so epic. There's nothing like it that even comes close, not even sex.

I have only done in store pick-up for my MBP, iMac, and AppleTV. And it was a very nice experience with the good looking ladies talking with me as I waited (iCandy) :). I cringe at the thought of iPhone pick-up on release day. Long lines for sure.

When I did in store pickup for the 6S Plus on launch day it was pretty bad. It could've just been the particular store, but it took about 2 hours.

I did in store pickup for the 7 Plus as well. Not on launch day and it was less than 5 minutes.
