In store pickup Verizon iPhone X, can I tell them I don't want to activate it?

I have a question about this if anyone knows. I tried to contact Apple CS but the high volume can't get through.

When I pick up the Verizon iPhone will they activate it? Because I really don't want them too since I used a friends account to buy it and wanted to put my ATT sim in instead.

No need to activate. You can pick up and walk out. I do this every year, because I use it on my AT&T line. I pop my ATT SIM into the VZW phone, turn it on, and voila! It works like a charm.

Yes. I've done this in the past. They'll ask if you want them to set it up. You say no. They give you a bag and send you on your way.
