I've had too many issues with UPS to do home delivery any more. They use to require a signature and if you weren't home to sign for it, it would go back to the UPS warehouse and you would have to go there to get it. Talk about a PIA! Waiting with 50 other folks for your particular driver to return to the warehouse and then wait for the truck to unload and then for them to find your phone and call your name. a 2-3 hour ordeal. Never again
Do they (UPS) not require a signature anymore?

If you go through a carrier (TMo)will they likely use UPS as well?

I’m going to try to use the UPS app to see if I can redirect it toy local UPS store.

I’m not sure if anyone will be home when they deliver.

I'm lucky enough to live near a store so I can go pick it up. The last time I opted for delivery, UPS required a signature. That was two cycles ago. Maybe if you have a UPS account you can make the delivery one that does not require a signature.

Oh wow, that’s crazy, thanks for letting me know! I did speak with an Apple customer service rep when I asked if what was trying to do would be possible and they assured me it would be allowed but you often get different answers from different people so it’s good to have someone with real world experience share that. May have to rethink if I want to chance it or not..
Yeah, you do get different answers depending on who you speak to in the store and on the phone. Also, different stores will give different answers.

FYI, if you redirect it to a UPS store, the delivery will be delayed by at least one day: since the next day is Saturday, you might not get it until Monday.

I pick up in store, go home and open the phone box in silence. Then I start doing the transfer and check on it every once in a while. No waiting at the store dealing with WiFi speeds and lots of people standing shoulder to shoulder. A week or so later I take in my old phone and close acct once I’m sure the new phone is working well.
Also if you have an Apple Watch it’s much easier to transfer watch to new phone if you have the old phone in hand than dealing with it after the phone is gone. I’ve done this twice over the years and I lost health info. YMMV.
When you do this, do you pay the full amount when you buy the new phone. Then a week later, you take your old phone to the store and trade it in? If so, do they refund the trade-in money back to your credit card, or do they make you take an Apple Gift Card?

Additional Question: When you trade in your phone a week later, Apple gives you the trade-in value, plus tax correct? Because we should only be paying tax on the difference between the trade in value and new phone cost.

Thanks for the heads up.

That might be my best bet though - that or take off work and stay home to sign for it.

That might vary by state.

In California, you have to pay full tax on the phone regardless.

In the past I’ve almost always did home delivery. However after seeing so many posts online about them being stolen, I’ll just do store pick up this time.
