I kept checking on the the Studio Monitor all day and couldnt find one in stock in MN then all of a sudden one with tilt became available at 4:30pm. I was able to grab it. I really want to get one with tilt and raise/lower but haven't seen any of those-- I think there was one in WI that had the nano display and that disappeared in seconds. I am out until June for the Mac Studio computer however. Since it is custom i have no choice but to wait

Did anyone notice at the Apple Store how unusually busy today was ?

Saw lots of people picking up iPhones & iPads but very little picking up Studio Displays and Mac Studios.

I was the only one in the entire floor and people kept looking at the 2 boxes that didn't fit in an Apple retail bag.
Was there an indication in store what configurations will be sold at retail locations? Curious what to watch for to be available for pickup in the near future (if there will be anything outside the base Ultra and base Max configs. I’d just like a tad more storage than the base Max comes with).

As of 10:30 AM EDT Saturday, both base models are sold out ("currently unavailable") at all 12 New York City Apple Stores. Configurations other than base are "unavailable" for Apple Store pickup, not just "currently unavailable".

The store I picked up my Studio was busy and the individual who helped me said they're typically busy. He did say they were sold out of Studio and, more so, the Studio Display. Though it's my opinion the new Mac and display were in shorter supply than iPhones.
Agree, based on how quickly the display and Mac Studio both sold out within 90 minutes online near me - I have to guess that the quantities were limited.

If there is one silver lining, it's the fact that this time around, I did not have wring my hands, pacing the front door waiting for an online order to appear.

This time I became a bit smarter: dual orders - online and Apple Store pickup on launch day.

Because the Apple Store had inventory at 5am on launch day, I was able to pick them up, and cancel my online orders.

Saved me from the stress of a delivery (which BTW never made it on launch day).

I ordered a Mac Studio/M1 Max from my nearest NYC Apple Store just after 4 PM yesterday and the store delivered it to my door at 6 PM via a guy on a bicycle. Live tracking on a map too. Delivery was $9, less than it would have cost me to park at the store.

Quite civilised :)

Wow, bicycle delivery ?
And parking costs ?
In Southern California, we don't have bicycle deliveries so we actually have to drive and we get free parking at all the nearby Apple Stores - all eight of them!

Yes, I'd pay $9 for delivery now to save on fuel costs which are sky high!

I'd like to pick up a 2nd Studio Display but noticed they are sold out across the board.
Earliest appears to be April 13th on the Apple website for shipped version.
Costco says if I order today, estimated delivery will be on March 24th...does that seem realistic given the short supply that's sold out at Apple direct?

B&H and Best Buy say "Coming Soon" with no specific date.

Best Buy is still offering the base M1 Max for shipping on March 23. It also now offers pickup on March 24.

On the base Ultra, yesterday it offered shipping on March 23, but now it's 2-3 weeks.

B&H is still on preorder for all configurations, with no shipping dates for any of them.

Be careful with B&H. Their "return" policy is horrible, and they're a horrible company to deal with.

I pre-ordered the M1 MBA back when it was first released - it was on backorder. They charged my credit card. I waited a month and there was no updates on availability. I couldn't wait any longer, so I cancelled the order. Before it was even in stock or had shipped. They wouldn't refund my money. They would only issue a store credit. There were dozens of emails and phone calls. Emails went around in circles. Phone calls went through menu hell and hold wait times of hours. They would say they'd call back and never did and I'd have to start all over. It was a nightmare. I finally filed a complaint with my credit card company, and they got my money back. I will never buy anything from B&H again.

I have the new PayBoo B&H card that Comenity issues and is a lot better than before.

You can choose between no tax or 0% over 12 months payment plans.

When I pre-ordered the Studio Display and Mac, they did not charge my card as it was backordered.
On launch day, I went ahead and got them at the Apple Store.

Since I had what I wanted and B&H was not being shipped - I cancelled and saw nothing on my PayBoo card.
Pretty easy peasy....

Ya I wouldn't pre-order anything from B&H, but generally had decent experience with them with in-stock photography and storage gears over the last few decades, very fast shipping, and a few years back they didn't charge sale tax (now they do unless you get their brand card).

That was my experience over the years, but I never had to deal with their customer service before that incident. That's the way it is with a lot of companies these days - it all seems great until you run into an issue.

That's why Apple is the gold standard in that dept, and I've found Amazon to be great for returning stuff with no hassle (though you always have to check the return policy for computers/electronics - it can vary quite a bit especially with third-party sellers).

Anyway, don't want to get too far off-topic.

As of this afternoon, B&H isn't an option in the near-term anyway. It's now showing mid-May availability for all configurations. Over many years, I've had only good experiences with B&H, including with its staff. However, it's important to know that computers are on a short list of exceptions to a return policy that is mostly very similar to Amazon's. It won't take a return on a computer if the packaging has been opened.

I wonder how many people who wanted to pick up an Ultra yesterday ended up picking up a Mac instead (since it was available for pickup longer than the Ultra).

I wonder how many people who got a base M1 Max yesterday are interested in trading it in for more memory and/or storage, in a situation where the odds are slim to none that Apple Stores will have what they want by April 1st, the deadline for a return.

I just might be in that group, and Apple is saying June 8-22 for both of the other configurations that interest me :)

Not I.

The base Mac Studio Max is more than enough for my needs.

Even my M1 Mac Mini (base) that I traded in was more than enough (8GB / 250GB).

I only got the base Studio for Pro Apps EDU bundle and dual TB displays (Studio + 27" Thunderbolt 2).

Can't think of a reason to get a higher spec Studio unless I was a prosumer or professional....

MKBHD review said it perfectly… it’s probably overkill for the majority of people. I agree with him it’s a good value for what it is ?. I got a base (I laugh saying that cause both bases are expensive) Ultra and Adjustable Display they had in stock early launch day. It was what I already had on order I canceled my other ones. I am very happy but my wallet is a lot lighter ?

Looks like Mac Studios are going to trickle into Apple Stores. On Friday, all 12 NY Apple Stores had both Max and Ultra models. From Friday evening to first thing this morning, none of the 12 had either, but both are showing up in a few Stores now. Still only base models. Not holding my breath, but maybe we'll see some variations over the next week or so.

There's clearly product in the pipeline. Best Buy will ship the base Max on Wednesday, and is offering NY pickup on Thursday. However, it currently estimates April 8th for shipping of base Ultras.

For longevity, overkill is not a bad thing.

Should be ok, I ordered one from Best Buy, for delivery Tuesday 22nd. Cancelled my April order from the Apple online store.

Apple's website says that most of its 12 New York stores will have base Max and Ultra Mac Studios available for pickup tomorrow. If you want, you could pick up either at the 24 hour Fifth Avenue store tonight.
