Hey, I'm a new member, and I looked around - but couldn't find any solution to this issue. If there is, please redirect me.

At a random time months ago (I cant pinpoint what triggered it) certain windows started to make themselves half-opaque when inactive. They seem to be "cocoa" applications (though I'm not sure the exact definition of that).

The windows that are effected are:
Skype v2.8.0 (chat windows only, not main 'buddy list')
iMovie
iPhoto... I think there are more, I can't figure out which though. I'll update.

The windows that are (surprisingly) NOT effected are:
Windows Live Messenger v7.0.2
Textedit
Microsoft Word 2007
Firefox v3.6

I have the program named "Afloat" and it seems to be inconsequential to the problem. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! This is quite annoying.

Resolved

After a long time I figured out the problem (and after that, had an ordeal trying to fix it).

The problem hid itself in a 3rd party program I'd found long ago by Parrot software named "setalphavalue" or "crystal clear". I couldn't figure out which was the title. I could search my computer using spotlight or anything else without finding traces of the program hiding. With help from an apple support specialist (great help) we found the software online, simulated the installation process to find where it preferred to hide itself - then went to that folder to delete the file.

Wheew! How relieving!

Hope this helps someone down the road!
