Inadvertently deleted text messages - have local backup, how to restore ?

Hello - I deleted all the text messages from someone inadvertently which I need to recover.
I have a local backup from a couple days ago, but don't want to restore the entire phone from this backup.

What is the best way of extracting the messages and restoring back to the iPhone ? Is this even possible ?

Try a program called iTools. Google it. It can read local itunes backups and extract data. Then import just specific pieces.

I used this too because I wanted to get rid of all media files in my iMessages.
Works great.
