Incase’s Convertible Book Jacket not worth the price

Purchased the case last Saturday 4/10/10 and the black material has started tearing. Also, after about 2 days it no longer stays angled using the last grove. Going to bring it back to Apple, I hope I can get my money back.

NOT WORTH THE $60

You can get yours to stay up when placed in the lowest angle groove? If so, that is amazing. Mine did it for the first couple of days, now that position is totally useless to me which is too bad cause I liked to type in that position the best. 😱

The lowest groove was still working yesterday... but it didn't work today. Not sure why. People keep taking it off my hands and taking it out of the case so that might have warped it a little. I was actually trying to figure out why that lowest rung stopped working. I'm going to try getting it to work again.
 
I love this case but i am getting paranoid with this thread. I am still within my return policy so i am wondering if i should take it back and wait for something better if this thing is going to fall apart.
 
The MarWare Eco-Vue arrived today. It's the bomb. I took the InCase Book Cover back to the Apple Store and got a full refund.

The Eco-Vue is higher quality construction, lighter, thinner, and has a great thick strap in the back so you can securely hold the iPad in one hand while typing "10 key" style with the other hand. The only negative is that the "prop it up" tab only allows one position. I can live with that.

Someone mentioned that it covered up the rotate switch. Does it? Also, how good is the kick stand? With it stay up on your lap for example?

i checked it out in person and it was too bulky for my tastes. I got the apple case and am super satisfied with my decision. that sucks to hear the incase is cheaply made, sorry you wasted the money.

Doesn't cover my rotation switch, but it does cover the audio / dock connector switch. You have to push it into the right position to get those to fit.

Stays on my lap pretty well. I think the one advantage over this and the apple case is that you can put this on any surface.


I agree that it's a tad too bulky.

Lowest grove doesn't work, openings don't align & more ripping of the material. This is all with light use! Buyer beware!

I agree with you on all points there although I have not had any ripping of material occur. I do plan on taking it back to Apple for refund though. I am still waiting on my Apple casse that I ordered to ship. Was hoping I would get it before my 14 day return period was up for the incase, but doesn't look like I will. Will have to go naked with the iPad for a bit. Oh well.
 
I have had this case for almost two weeks. While I agree that is isn't perfect, I think it is still the best case that I have seen so far. The iPad does shift slightly when using the stand, but I don't think that it is a big deal to push it in a half centimeter every once in a while.

Mine still works using all three stand positions very well. I think after a couple weeks I think that the middle position is the best for viewing and casual typing. When I am typing something a little longer (like now) I just slide it to the bottom position.

I am looking forward to a similar case that is much thinner, but for the time being I think that this case is the best out there in terms of overall look, protection and functionality.
 
I'd agree that the incase is starting to show it's wear after about 2 weeks mine is slightly warped, some glue from the leather is peeling off and it slips out of the lowest position but it's still functional. For a case with a stand it's probably the best out there right now however, based on another thread i went out and got the belkin clear grip vue today which is going in a totally different direction (case wise) but so far I'm really liking the slimmer feel. I just need to adapt to the "not having a stand" issue now.
 
I got the Incase Book Jacket from bestbuy today for $50. It's the only case they had locally around where I live. Note this is slightly different from the Incase Convertible Jacket which has the grooves that allow you stand up the iPad at different angles. However, you can stand it up by folding over the cover. I wanted the convertible, but could'nt wait to order online. Quality is excellent so far. It does add weight to the iPad but protects it a lot better then the Apple cover. One problem is that the top cover curves over when using the rubber band strap, thus there's a slight gap that dust and small items could get to the screen.
 
I just found another one that is cheaper with similar or better design

I found this convertible case from TrendyDigital. It looks pretty nice and cheaper than the Incase one. The design looks quite similar with a few difference. The closure is via small magnet at the corner. It also has a flap to secure the ipad so that it won't slip when the case is in a stand position.
