Hello all

I'm a relative newcomer to Mac but UNIX/Linux veteran.

I'm running a Mac Mini--late 2011 I think--with 8GB RAM. OS X Lion.

Some weeks ago, it seemed as if the GUI locked up but it turned out my wireless mouse had run out of juice. Anyway, it occured to me that if I could remotely log in to my Mac via SSH from within my home LAN, I could kill offending applications, or shutdown etc. So I enabled remote login and set it to only allow my login ID to connect via SSH.

Soon after setting up remote login, I was able to connect using PuTTY from a Windows 7 netbook. It asked if I wanted to save the key etc. All seemed OK, and I just left it. Since then I have never been able to connect again. All attempt end with "Network error. Connection timed out." Normal networking is working fine. I can see and connect to all other machines on the LAN: 1 Linux server, 1 Windows XP desktop and the netbook when it's switched on.

I have been searching for some answer for the last 24 hours without success. I checked to see if it was listening on port 22. I used Top and ps aux to see if the SSH server was running. Then I read somewhere that the server is launched "Just in time.." Can't find a solution.

I'm afraid I have not been very methodical in my search for an answer so would have to track down many of the things I have tried again to give precise details.

Any and all suggestions and advice gratefully accepted.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
