I’ve had this with the AW 6, 7, 8 and now my Ultra. This one is from my morning run (5 miles) but can happen with a walk, yoga, step, HIIT, traditional strength.
It might miss recording at the start of session or at the end of session or in the middle of session.
It can record without issue on a run and when I then switch straight to the cool down, it doesn’t record HR at all.
I’ve experimented with strap tightness, watch position on wrist etc I cannot find a pattern to it.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have had that problem for years, through several watch editions and Watch OS versions. I have not found a solution either. I usually wear my watch on my left arm, but I have taken to wearing it on my right when I exercise. That seems to make the problem less frequent. I also have the best luck with the velcro sport loop bands. I take care to make sure the band is tight, and the watch sits flat on my wrist. When the weather is cool, I may wear long sleeves and/or a jacket. I suspect the cuff of the sleeve may bump my watch out of position, but I cannot be sure of this.

I wear mine on my right wrist. Today’s run was short sleeves. I use the sports loop and have tried different tightnesses too.
Thanks for your reply I appreciated it.
