So I'm connecting my Macbook Pro to my Samsung 32 inch full HD LED TV via VGA. All is well except for the fact that the colours aren't quite right on my external display.

My brother connects his Mac Mini to his TV with a VGA cable and his colours are fine. Technically my TV is much better than his as well so I'm kinda confused as to why mine isn't displaying properly.

I've tried calibrating it but it doesn't fix the problem the way I'd like it to. All the colours seem way too dull no matter what I do.

The TV displays fantastic colours when I watch TV, play Xbox 360 or play PS3 on it so it should be the same when I connect my computer, right?

Can anyone suggest any fixes to this problem? Should I just buy a MDP to HDMI cable instead of using VGA?

Check the color temp in your display's profile in system preferences. You probably have to go into the calibration menu, but that may help.

A couple of thoughts. Firstly - this is unlikely to be the problem - have you tried with something like DVI rather than VGA? I doubt it would make much difference though.

Also, your TV may have built in profiles that switch depending on the source, perhaps this is what you're looking for? Try to connect using the same connector as you would for your xbox or ps3, if you have a connector lying around. Chances are though, there's probably a setting in your TV setup menu that will change the profile to how you like it for any given connection.

I just tried the Xbox through the VGA connection. It looks crappy too. I suppose VGA is a no go for this type of TV. That sucks. I guess I'll just get an HDMI cable instead
