    Hi,
I have a Shure SM57 microphone that I use for recording trumpet. It sounds great, but very quiet! I have the input volume set to the top, but it still is barely loud enough. Being it is a trumpet I'm recording I usually have to stand at least a foot away from the mic to get a decent sound.

Is there any way to make it louder without getting closer to the microphone? Sorry for the rushed/confusing explanation! :(

    Thanks,
    Andrew

SM57 mics, by definition, are cardioid microphones, which means they don't pick up sounds that are more than a few inches away from the sound source.
