I have a MacBook Pro 10.6.8. In TextEdit (v. 1.6) I have not been able to figure out how to insert or create indented text except as a list. Checking list option 'none' DOESN'T produce a list without a preceding symbol/marker, but kicks me down the list, to indented text preceded by a dash. So any indented text is always preceded by a dash.

I need to indent quoted text a lot, so with is a big deal for me.

I don't have MS Office, and my only alternative is Papers, which not only has a lot more features than I usually need, but also produces documents that other people can't open easily.

Sometimes I compose my doc as a new Mail message, in which indenting is a snap w/ Command], then copy my 'letter' into TextEdit. Quelle drag.

There must be an easier way, but I've followed up lots of search engines queries without finding it. Help, please?

Click and drag the small tools in the ruler as shown in the attached screenshot. After you have set them you can save the configuration as a style.

Be well.
