Data gathered by research firm Counterpoint said that Apple represented a total of 2.5 percent of India's smartphone market as of the quarter that ended in December 2017.

Is this data based on iPhone sales through official retail channels in India? There are an awful lot number of people buying from outside India to counter high Indian retail prices and now with Apple honouring international warranty, domestic sales are going to slide.

I feel blaming Maps/Siri is kind of a buyers remorse after paying exhorbitant prices. If priced alongside US prices, such complaints too will reduce. Most of the Indians feel shortchanged when they compare prices. If priced similarly, the psychological barrier won't be there.

Lastly, Wistron Taiwan already has a manufacturing presence in India and is not even utilised fully. They were operating just 1 shift for making the SE, which too has very less demand. There is something inherently wrong in Apple's image in India :p with the masses and has nothing to do with the high import duty. And with Foxconn's Indian investment, the 'not made locally, hence expensive' facade will go away.

Apple maps completely sucks worldwide, I hate to use Google tracking products but Google Maps is just infinitly better than Apple retarded Maps. Apple should really open this to 3rd party devices for it to thrive, not everything should be closed in the Apple ecosystem.

Any one know a reliable alternative to Google Maps that doesn't track and data mine your information?

In India, Apple Map uses 10+ years old images, even in major cities. They don't even have directions which not a big problem to implement I think as Apple uses Tom-Tom. Siri works fairly well. They should partner with MapmyIndia for Maps. It's best navigation system I have used (from 2010 on Symbian OS).

People who are buying Apple products in India are consciously making a decision that most of the Apple's services (Service, Apple Care, Maps, Music, Apple Pay) are not available/poor in Indian market.
Most of them are buying for the Hardware, Camera, App Store and the apple logo at the back (Some are corporate customers).

Can you imagine complexity building, updating world map? With 3D helicopter images, 3D building and public transport. Translated to most world languages. From the start Apple had superior graphic design, colors and icons. Google Maps had to updated all the UI and look. Still I prefer Apple Maps app because its superior UI, it eats less data and, I suspect, battery than Google Maps. Have no problems with actual data, not in London.
So your saying that Apple can’t handle the complexity but google can? The rest of your post is a dig at google.

Most of that as far as banks are dependent on the banks. Stop trying to blame Apple for things they can’t control
Please explain how the banks are involve with pints 2-6. That’s all apple

Read about the drama with Apple Pay in Australia.
Ok. But this isn’t Australia.
It was also well publicized. Haven’t heard much about India other than poor sales

The same true with Apple Maps, getting better every day. Google just had head start.

Head starts are pretty important to me as a user. Google Maps five years ago isn't the competition, Google Maps today is.

It's great in London.

It's actively dishonest to try and pretend Apple Maps is even worthwhile in London. It's terrible. Flat out awful. POI data is all over the place. Business listings are unreliable. There are legions of errors within sight range.

The actual data is slightly less utterly humiliating than it was at launch, but not much. And at launch there were businesses listed in East London that had literally closed down before Apple was formed in 1976.

Tap ℹ button and tap "Report an Issue", you can be notified about the progress of query.

There are errors in London's mapping data I reported in the iOS6 beta that still haven't been fixed.

I think the actual state of GPS nav apps in general is less than great because of all the data involved and how fast many major cities are changing. Apple Maps works fine in Mexico City and most interstate highways. But, back in December, I used it to drive out of a rural area in the state of Guerrero, and it seemed as if the app was a luring tool for criminals to abuse on tourists. Google Maps, as well as Apple Maps, always have a hard time giving directions on lane exits for the Mexico City Periférico Ring because how much that highway changes due to accidents, maintenance work, etc. Waze used to be the de facto app for navigating Mexico City, but now its info has giving me directions to drive against traffic or towards dead ends so many times that I deleted it completely from my iPhone.
I don't know what's really involved, but right now they are not perfect tools. None of them. They want to add so much functionality that they end up being a mess.
As for Siri, I use it only to make calls or set a reminder or alarm, and occasional dictation while driving as input for the Music CarPlay app. I have my iPhone setup to use english as its input language, and it's flawless. My wife's iPhone is setup in spanish and when she tries to use Siri, is like asking your dog to sum 1+1. Sometimes it barks back two times.

They can, just need more time. It takes time. Even with incorrect POI, they still got many things right, better colours, icons and app design. Less data usage and privacy.

In Canada my wife and I avoid using Apple maps. It doesn’t know where a lot of addresses are, or it routes you to the most inefficient routes to get somewhere.

More time? How many years has it been since their initial public apology for how bad it was? 5 years or so?

In short, Apple maps and services are poor in India. Well, they are poor in many countries. So there is nothing new.
