Individual to Family Pack

I have 100 days left on my current individual subscription. I would like to purchase the family pack. How does it work with the time I have left? Is that added to the family pack or lost?

I just did this today and it charged me $16. That is the prorated cost for the family pack upgrade. My account still expires in November, like before.
