Infuse 8.1 with some great new additions is now available for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision!

Alphabet scrollbars

The browsing experience has been rebuilt from the ground up for improved performance and reliability. In addition to being faster this lays the groundwork for some great new features, such as an alphabet scrollbar to quickly jump between sections while browsing.

Note: The quick letter jump feature is available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV while browsing Infuse library categories as well as Plex. On Apple TV, the letter bar is hidden to start and will appear automatically when scrolling quickly through a list of videos.

Stream from 123 Cloud Drive(123云盘)

Direct support for 123 Cloud Drive is now available! 123 Cloud Drive is a popular cloud service available in China with storage options of up to 100 TB. This new feature is available to all Pro users.

Note: Streaming from 123 Cloud Drive is available on all platforms (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision), but connections to cloud services need to be set up on iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Vision. Once this is done on a single device the connection will then sync to other devices via iCloud.

More Dolby Vision

Robust support for Dolby Vision has been available in Infuse for quite some time, and today it gets expanded even further with added handling of even more Dolby Vision (Profile 8) variants! These changes are available on all devices and will be available automatically after installing the 8.1 update. The latest versions of iOS/tvOS 18, macOS 15, and visionOS 2 are recommended for the best experience.

STRM files

A STRM file is a versatile format which can be used to build of library of lightweight text files, each containing an HTTP link to a video file stored elsewhere. This works similarly to the Direct URL feature but allow for links to be added without having to copy/paste them into Infuse. Learn more about using .STRM files.

Infuse is a video player app for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision.

It supports virtually every video file ever created, and features exceptional support for modern formats such as HDR, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.

It can stream from most any network device that supports SMB, NFS, FTP, WebDAV, UPnP, or DLNA, and also includes support for many popular cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc...

question for @firecore - i'm finding that my BD 4K HDR rips made with handbrake and using trueHD 7.1 passthrough don't seem to trigger my receiver to realize it is getting multi-channel audio. if i play a different video with 5.1 audio, the receiver switches to the multichannel mode and then if i go back to one of the problem videos, the 7.1 audio is output correctly by the receiver (although i only have a 5.1 system.)

what's strange here is it seems like the receiver is correctly interpreting the audio data in that when it's not in multichannel mode it's either downmixing or picking off the L/R channels from the stream - the audio is not garbage but is otherwise correct and in sync. it's just stereo audio.

i realize debugging these things are almost impossible and the problem could lie in the apple TV or the receiver, but have you ever seen issues like this and are there any solutions? i have not yet tried apple's built in media app to see if the problem occurs there.

Do these videos have multiple audio tracks? If so, Infuse may be picking up a stereo track that has been tagged as 'Default'.

You can switch between audio tracks during playback by swiping down and navigating to the Audio tab.

If you want Infuse to ignore these Default tags you can change the Audio Language option (found in Infuse > Settings) from Auto to your preferred language. Doing this will allow Infuse to automatically choose the highest quality audio track.

There is also a tvOS bug which may cause the device to stay in stereo mode until certain audio formats are played (or the device is restarted). Unfortunately, this is a system level issue which apps like Infuse are not able to workaround.

they do have multiple tracks but Infuse has picked up the primary, which is 7.1. so that's not the problem. it used to be (IIRC) that you had to have a stereo track present or the appleTV wouldn't play anything, so when i make an mp4 file i always tell handbrake to downmix the surround into a 2nd stereo audio track. maybe this is not necessary anymore. but again, Infuse is correctly automatically choosing the 7.1 track.

i think the problem must be the tvOS bug you are referring to. i guess then the appleTV must be erroneously down-mixing the 7.1 audio to stereo, which is why the receiver is OK with what it's getting. i think for now i'll just go back and mux in a 5.1 audio track into these files with subler and if the problem occurs i can just switch to the 5.1 track inside of the same video to make the 7.1 track start working.

do you know if this bug is in Radar (meaning, is there any hope that apple might fix it?)

thanks for the help.

It's been reported by us as well as other users. Hopefully Apple gets around to fixing it in the future, but it is an issue that has been present since tvOS 16. 😕

We’re excited to announce that Infuse 8.2 is available today, bringing a host of powerful new features to iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision!

Multiple user profiles

The ability to use separate profiles is now available on Apple TV! With Infuse, each family member can enjoy a personalized setup—complete with custom home screen layouts, network shares, watched history, ratings, parental controls, and Trakt accounts. Profiles can also be linked to individual iCloud accounts, making it easier than ever to keep things in sync across devices. Learn more

Note: tvOS 26 (pictured below), arriving this fall, introduces a streamlined experience with an optional profile selection prompt that appears whenever Apple TV wakes from sleep. Manual profile switching, available in tvOS 18, will remain supported in tvOS 26 as well.

Multiple user profiles

Stream from iCloud Drive

In addition to browsing and playing files downloaded from iCloud, Infuse now also supports streaming directly from iCloud—allowing you to play videos without using local storage on your device. Of course, the option to download files for offline playback is still available.

Note: Apple currently does not allow browsing iCloud Drive files on Apple TV. However, direct links to iCloud Drive files can be added to the ‘Links’ section in Infuse, and these links will be accessible on other devices—including Apple TV. Learn more

Metacritic ratings

Alongside TMDB and Trakt, Infuse now offers ratings from Metacritic for movies and TV shows. This rating (Metascore) is a single score that represents the critical consensus curated from a diverse group of highly respected critics. This added perspective can offer helpful insight when choosing the perfect title for movie night. Metacritic ratings are available for all PRO users.

Enhanced AI video upscaling

An expanded set of AI upscaling features is now available, including limited support for current Apple TV 4K models. Infuse leverages Apple’s hardware to deliver sharper, clearer images when playing lower-resolution videos on larger screens. Capabilities vary depending on the device, with the full suite of features requiring an A16 chip or newer. As a result, Apple TV users can expect even greater improvements with the next-generation model—potentially arriving as soon as this year.
