im considering getting a macbookpro, and i was wondering, should i charge it for a certain amount of time before turning it on?

I didn't with either of mine when I got them. You can always calibrate your battery after you get it all set up. You can find how to do that on Apple's support website. I don't think there are any ill effects of starting it up right out of the box with no initial charge. AFAIK.

Apple does the first power cycle for you, so out of the box, you can start using it… not to say you shouldn't charge it first time as the owner of it.
