Want set up an iPad that is a Christmas gift for someone else.
If I connect to my iMac, will the iPad register under my name?
Been awhile since I've done this so I don't remember exactly how this works.

I'm just looking to install a few apps for them and download pics to their iPad.
Is this possible without the iPad registering under my name and information?

Without logging in into iTunes account ,you cant download anything.

so really there is nothing i can do, right?

well, what happens if i connect to iTunes on my computer, do what i want to do and then give the ipad to the other person?
when they connect to iTunes on their computer, can they change the contact/owner information or will the ipad be linked to me?

I suppose you could import the photos after the setup, by using the camera kit and an SD card. Remember with iOS 5 you don't need a computer to setup the iPad.

But apps are tied to an account; as stated above.

Depending on the circumstances, you could log into their account from the iPad and put their apps on it from iCloud. Or gain access to their pc and have it set up before hand.

This is what I did w the ms's, she was stoked but YMMV

eh... to much work.

i guess i can help set it up after they get their iPad.
it's for the inlaws so they'll need help with set up.

If this person does not have an iTunes account, create one for them on your computer. Log into that account in iTunes on your computer, then set up the iPad. Be sure to change back to your own account after you set up their iPad.

I did this for my father, after I set up the iPad for him, he logged into iTunes on his computer and synced with no problem. He did not have an iTunes account previously, so it was not a problem to create one for him. If this person already has an iTunes account, it will be more confusion than it is worth to set up with your account and then switch accounts, maybe just give an iTunes gift card if you want to help pay for some apps.

If you leave the iPad in the sealed box, they'll be happy knowing its a New item.

Set up their iTunes account beforehand (if nec) on your computer with some good free Apps... and as others have said, include an iTunes gift card so they can enjoy the gift Before they have to start paying :)

Check stores for gift card deals... example: Safeway has 15% off gc multipacks this month.
