Some of us idiots tried to preorder for 7 hours on the day orders started but couldn't due to rampant Apple & AT&T server and account-verification issues. This idiot took a reservation as the next-best alternative.

Exactly the boat I was in. I tried to preorder, but just could not get through. Since I wanted to sell my old iPhone 3G for the max possible, I needed to get the iPhone 4 on release day. Luckily my work situation was such that I could do it.

It was kind cool camping out for it but I will say that it was brutally hot in line. The "low" that morning was 73 and the high was 99. It was about 90 by 10:00 AM. http://www.wunderground.com/history...tml?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA Luckily, I was mostly in a courtyard between two buildings for most of the morning, only getting direct sun for the last 30-45, but there were people on the other side of the building that once the sun came up they had full sun for 6 or 7 hours. At least the Apple store employees brought out lots of water bottles and fruit.

If this was the same store in the RDU area where I picked up my preorder then the local staff also had umbrellas for use as parasols.

That day had temps past the triple-digit mark in some areas - and humid.

My friend and I had both managed to pre-order (and yes, that was a total cluster) so we just drove up around 4 and the pre-order line was literally us. I felt bad for the 300 or so people STILL in line at that point.

I don't see the VzW launch being quite as big, but it will still be an event.

Some people couldn't even get reservations, and the people who reserved still had to wait quite a while.

It was nice since ATT did not have stock for walk-ins till about a week after launch.

Funny... The one response that I've gotten from signing up for the Verizon notices was an e-mail from a sales rep highlight all the deals that they currently have running on smartphones. (Sans iPhone.) The e-mail asked to to call him so I did but I had to leave a message. I left a message stating that I was excited about getting a new iPhone and that I hope that everything would go smooth. If he had any thoughts on how to help me please call me back.

In turn he left a message or me in which he discouraged me from trying to pre-order or coming to the store on the 10th. I should rather come two or three days after the launch......

(I stopped listening to the message right there knowing he was a buffoon!!)
