Input lag when typing on MacOS Ventura

I've noticed that when typing, letters appear maybe a split second slower which affects the accuracy. Sometimes the input doesn't register at all, like the whole OS froze for a moment. Anyone experiencing the same issue?

i have experienced this intermittently on both my ios and macos devices. i often notice it in the messages app. usually restarting seems to help, although i agree it can be an annoying bug when something so basic seems to be struggling. i'll follow this thread in case anyone else posts with more info to avoid it happening altogther!

This just started happening to me last week. Even as I type this, I'll type two whole words before it will suddenly spit them out on the screen. Activity Monitor shows nothing going on in terms of the CPU usage.

Well, I spent a couple hours hunting down the issue. I rebooted in safe mode and the problem was gone, so it had to be something that could be cured. Ran diagnostic, rebooted without anything plugged in the back. Lagging was still there. Then a thought occurred, maybe it's a problem with the wireless keyboard, not the Mac. I simply turned the wireless keyboard off, then turned it back on. I haven't seen the lag since. 🙂

Well, I spent a couple hours hunting down the issue. I rebooted in safe mode and the problem was gone, so it had to be something that could be cured. Ran diagnostic, rebooted without anything plugged in the back. Lagging was still there. Then a thought occurred, maybe it's a problem with the wireless keyboard, not the Mac. I simply turned the wireless keyboard off, then turned it back on. I haven't seen the lag since. 🙂

Ugh I wish it were this simple but its not. Happening with keyboard and scrolling with the trackpad.

When you're having problems with wireless devices, then "try wired" instead.

I'll tell you one thing I've learned over the years. Even if you have a wireless Mac keyboard and mouse, always have a wired keyboard and wired mouse as a backup (even if it's a cheap one from Staples/Office Depot). So many times, when a HD is having issues and I'm trying to reboot, a simple Staples $9 wired mouse saves the day when the wireless stuff doesn't connect. Same goes with trying to get past the password screen.

Turning the keyboard/trackpad off and on again always fixed the lag issue, but I have to do it every 1-6 weeks so it's really annoying.

I can only blame Apple for this shoddy behavior, because all devices involved are Apple devices.

I don't remember this kind of consistently erratic UX quality when Steve Jobs and Scott Forstall were running things at Apple.

not everyone has this issue, it's hardly representative of apple in general, or... post jobs & forstall. my satechi BT keyboard and apple mouse have no lag in ventura, not once since the first OS beta (on my M2 pro mini or my previous intel imac).

if one has an issue, details, and a request for help will go a lot longer than pointless rants 🙄
