The need for developers to “innovate“ even if it feels more like mere busy-body dabbling and change for the sake of change forced onto a rather mature and well-refined app/website/iOS/OS, and the ease of which those updates can be disseminated to users, can too often nowadays combine into a plague of ruination and significantly decreased enjoyment of the customer use experience for many. We better just get used to it.

Wow.
Just wow.
Messenger, WhatsApp and now the incoming Instagram Direct.

HOW MANY FACEBOOK MESSENGER APPS DO THEY NEED?!

Reminds me of the relaunch of the website at my former place of employment. Truly an ugly story.

I do love Instagram but good lord they’re making it difficult for me.

My latest is I can’t follow hashtags. That rolled out recently and my partner can randomly.

Speaking of random-that out of sync timeline! Pure annoyance.

I’d be curious to hear more. I have intense personal disdain for much of what’s valued and and considered to be good web/app/UI design nowadays. Flat vague design, light-color low contrast text on stark white backgrounds, white text on Easter egg blue background (grrrr), spread-out websites 10x as tall as they are wide, meaningless hero images, meaningless hero videos, annoying sticky headers, etc. Like the thread topic: changes that don’t necessarily fix anything broken or provide noticeable new value but instead are just different.

My complaints are rooted in too often how iOS & websites (often looking eerily alike after 2013) are confusing and inefficient, requiring guessing and more steps to do what used to be intuitive and quick.

Please message separately if interested in sharing that site; I don’t want to derail this thread.
