Does your camera emit a "click" noise when accessing the Instagram camera on your iPhone 14 Pro/Max?

I'm not sure if this issue is related to the by now infamous "rattling/shaking" camera issue (aka "Rattlegate") - which is why i'd like to assess how common this particular observation is.

What is happening is that every second or third time opening the Instagram camera a noticeable "click" noise is coming from the back camera module. In regards to this countless reports by other users experiencing the same can be found online.

So far, i've not encountered "Rattlegate", but i'm still wondering if this strange camera "click" may also potentially damage the OIS...

Might be a good idea to wait to use the app with the camera until the bug fix update comes out that Apple has said will address the third party app camera issue and see if it solves the issue for you.

Has there been a fix for this? Still clicks for me on 16.0.3. So frustrating to spend this much on a phone to have a mechanical issue like this out of the box.

The click is normal even if it’s louder than the photo app. It’s the same sound you hear when you apply current to the camera module when the phone is taken apart.

I did this about six times on the Beastcam app on the 14 PM and heard the same loud click on my 12 PM with same OS and app, so it’s all software. No apparent damage to my phone but it is unnerving so I avoid apps that make the noise - at least until 16.1. But no, the click should not cause damage or shorten its life, but it still bothers me - so…

On my 14 pro max I get the clicking just posting a story in Instagram (choosing from my camera roll). Not using the camera or anything. I do believe Instagram has access to the camera though.

I've never experienced any audible mechanical noise like this on any other iphone (only have an Xs max and 12 mini to test). Is there a mechanical difference with the 14 pro max that makes this normal?

After chatting with Apple they have said this is a known issue but that it is on Instgram's side. So I don't believe it is normal.

They just haven’t optimized the app for the camera yet. The sensor is bigger so the noise is louder but my 12 PM made a similar noise that was loud. The fact Apple isn’t doing cartwheels to fix this means it’s not terminal like with the shack rattle and roll issue.

It is what it is, so just try workarounds for awhile - sigh…

Tell you what guys.

Why don’t one of you download the Friendly app and log in and see if the click occurs with this app. I don’t do Instagram as I’m an old fart.

If it works report back here and let all of us know.

Is anybody still having this issue on 16.1 with instagram updated?
No more click but it takes like 5 seconds until the camera is usable in Instagram... It turns black and looks weird until it becomes usable

The click is gone!

I don’t really use the camera in Instagram but I did just now and no loud click.

I downloaded Beastcam which always gave a loud click - and - no loud click.

As far as I’m concerned the shake/rattle/and roll was all on Apple’s end. And now with 16.1 the loud click is also on Apple’s end. The shake/rattle/ and roll crowd got their phones replaced. The click is way more minor. Still images are “OK”, and I have a six minute video to look at. It looks “OK” but I need to see it in a high-def monitor to make sure.

I would say the camera issues have all been addressed …
