I cannot believe this is the day I am finally going to say this.

"Young people want to watch other young people do stupid **** on video for laughs, so we have to change our photo app to be more like DikDok." - Instagram

I’m getting even more pissed about it than ever before. All I wanted was to see photos of my friends and family and connect with them, not be spied on 24/7 while also simultaneously being fed ads and reels and **** in a worse clone of TikTok. Instagram died the day Meta bought it about a decade ago. Meta has raped Instagram to the point where it’s unusable. Sorry for any sensitive language but there’s no better way to say it. Instagram is now one of the worst, if not the worst, app ever. I’m going to try and convince as many friends as I can to delete it, then pull the plug and delete all my Meta accounts. It’s absolutely vile and disgusting. I’m never giving even a fraction of a cent to Meta, and I will even put it in my will to not give any money I previously owned to them even after I die. They are the most evil company on the planet

Funny how everyone is complaining how large companies seek out the most revenue.
Pixelfed seems to be the place to be if you don’t what to play in that game.
- Decentralized without cryptocurrency bs
- run by devs for the fun
- users who don’t what to be to product for advertising and rather interact with each other
Tell me more about it. Sounds good

Why are the targeting young people? Young people [in general] have no money.😐 Target the Boomers and Gen X'ers; we're the ones with disposable income.🧐

Maybe I should start up a photo sharing site called: Shoot 'em, Frame 'em, Hang 'em.

This exactly! Instagram needs a new CEO and everything, they are completely out of touch. They think that because TikTok is short form video it is what draws people in, when in reality it is that almost too good algorithm. I also think you said it perfectly with Instagram is loosing its identity, the upload a photo of your day/life/events/moments with a little caption is what won people over in the beginning without the statuses and the extra stuff of other social media had. If Instagram just further refined the algorithm to bring more photos that people would possibly like then they would probably be sitting better even if they continued adding short video content.

Even with YouTube trying the short form video at least it is something separate. it isn't quite in your face where Instagram is pretty much forcing their new path onto you. I like the video that the CEO posted I believe yesterday, when he mentioned that they are not getting rid of photos because that is how it began, but plenty have proven that just uploading photos basically does nothing since the all mighty algorithm doesn't like it.

Might be another blackberry scenario all over again. Management knows they are screwed, but don’t have an effective answer.

I’m part of the test group that can only post reels, not regular videos, and I hate it.

Oh there is an effective answer and that IMO would be basically a rollback, how far? I personally don't know, but doing that is something businesses let alone people do not like doing since it basically means admitting fault.
